RECOGNIZING ACCOMPLISHEMENTS

See why we stand out…

Spring Valley Nature Preserve named as an official Monarch Waystation.

New signage is on display at Spring Valley Nature Preserve (SVNP) in recognition and appreciation for maintaining and sustaining a habitat to help keep the monarch butterfly population healthy.

The vernal pool area at SVNP, particularly in the northwest corner, yearly sees dozens of newly hatched monarchs. They almost exclusively feed and lay eggs on milkweed plants and they seem to be particularly happy in our little patch.

“The vernal pool area (what we don’t mow) checked all the boxes for recognition, so I submitted the application, in hopes that others will learn a little more of what we can all do to keep the monarchs healthy and thriving,” said Greg Dixon (GRD Maintenance Team). - Fall 2020
