Improving the community…
THROUGH STRATEGIC PLANNING OF CAPITAL PROJECTS, CREATING A POSITIVE COMMUNITY IMPACT.
: Completed Projects:
Paved Parking.
:Accessibility Improvements At Raccoon Valley Park & Wildwood Park:
OBJECTIVE: The GRD’s goal was to enhance user park experience through safer paved parking areas.
The parking lots/driveways of Raccoon Valley (RVP) and Wildwood Parks were completed after 2 years of acquiring proper zoning permits. Any unpaved parking/driveway areas at Raccoon Valley Park (RVP) were subject to the 100-year Floodway, therefore hindering ability to pave those areas.
PROJECT PARTNERS: We partnered with Village of Granville to obtain the lowest project cost through a collaborative bidding process
PROJECT GRANT/DONORS:
Licking County Park District provided $10,000 in support.
PROJECT COMPLETION: Fall 2023
COST: $713,093.04
FUNDING: The Raccoon Valley and Wildwood Park paving project was the cornerstone of the GRD’s 2020 capital initiative and made possible by the passage of the 5 yr, 5 mil levy in the fall of 2020.

Maintenance Building.
:Providing Climate-Controlled Storage, Work & Office Space At Raccoon Valley Park:
OBJECTIVE: The GRD is currently challenged without adequate storage and maintenance work space for its growing maintenance, educational and recreational needs. With the addition of a climate-controlled building the GRD will be able to provide proper storage for all equipment which will extend the life of maintenance and recreational equipment, while cutting the expense of an off-site storage unit.
PROJECT BEGIN/END DATES: The project began in 2021 with permit applications, surveying and engineering services with completion in the fall of 2022 at Raccoon Valley Park.
PROJECT PLAN: The 1,800-square-foot building is climate-controlled and includes a vehicle lift. The new space affords the maintenance team a more conducive work environment in cold months and allows the district to maintain equipment more easily. A restroom is to be completed at a later date.
PROJECT COMPLETION: Fall 2022
COST: $165,279.20
FUNDING: The Maintenance Building project was one of the major initiatives highlighted in GRD’s 2020 capital initiative and made possible by the passage of the 5 yr, 5 mil levy in the fall of 2020.
Wildwood Playground Renovation Project.
:Bringing New Life To A Local Favorite Family Hangout:

The Kiwanis Internationals mission is “Serving the Children of the World” therefore the club has always felt passionate about the playground and has continued to help maintain the structure by sealing the wood as a yearly service project.

PROJECT BEGIN/END DATES: April 17, 2018 / April 22, 2018
FUNDING: This bridge has been approved for a grant provided by the ODOT Transportation Enhancement Grant funding process. “The initial amount of the grant earmarked for the project is $1,005,000 and represents 80% of the estimated cost for construction and project engineering”, according to John M. Weigand, Rotary Project Coordinator. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Granville and Licking County as it further strengthens our infrastructure for non-vehicular transportation. It was the culmination of efforts made by the Rotary Club, the Granville Township trustees as sponsoring agency, the Village of Granville and particularly Alison Terry who wrote the grant, the Granville Recreational District, community members who wrote letters of support and many area foundations that contributed to the cause”. The Kiwanis Internationals mission is “Serving the Children of the World” therefore the club has always felt passionate about the playground and has continued to help maintain the structure by sealing the wood as a yearly service project and is committed to a large donation towards the rebuild.

Rotary Bridge Project.
:Linking T.J. Evans Bike & Pedestrian Path To Raccoon Valley Park:
OBJECTIVE: The goal of the Rotary Bridge Project was to construct a pedestrian bridge/pathway from the TJ Evans Trail to Raccoon Valley Park, providing an opportunity for all residents of Granville to safely access the Raccoon Valley Park. Operated solely by the GRD, is the community’s primary recreational area and is utilized by over 2,000 youth and adults annually. The 2007 pedestrian counts taken within this area indicate an average of 15,680 trail users per year, or 64 trips per day average over an 8-month period. The 2013 counts taken within this area indicated an average of 28,420 trail users per year, or 116 per day average over an 8-month period. It was anticipated with the construction of the Rotary Bridge Project there could be an increase of approximately 30 trail users per day, or approximately 7,105 trail users per year, roughly 25% of the total TJ Evans Trail users.
PROJECT BEGIN/END DATES: Started with the Granville Commission culminating in the spring of 2015.
PROJECT PLAN: To Enhance the quality of life for residents living in the Granville community, with the only, pedestrian access to Raccoon Valley Park. The access was the missing link to providing alternative transportation, from vehicular travel, to one of Granville’s prime recreational areas. The Rotary Bridge Project constitutes the second phase to providing a critical loop which will link the regional pathway system in the Granville community. The first phase of the loop was created when a similar pedestrian bridge was installed, to the west, along South Main Street in 2009.

Rotary Pavilion.
:To Be Built At Raccoon Valley Park:
This is a much needed addition to Raccoon Valley Park that will allow the GRD to meet the growing needs of our community. This Capital Project has been made possible through public/private partnerships. With an initial $100,000 investment from the Rotary Club of Granville the Rotary Pavilion will provide event space, full concessions, and indoor restrooms.
Paved Pathways.

Sidewalks and walking paths will be the next phase of the driveway and parking lot improvement at Wildwood and RVP. The enhancement will connect the sidewalk throughout the park to the TJ Evans Bike Path.
Pickleball Courts.
:Providing Additional Recreational Activity At Raccoon Valley Park:
Granville Rec originally planned to construct two pickle ball courts. With the popularity of the sport growing at a record pace, there are discussions to construct more courts as part of the project. Engineering work has already begun to streamline the construction process.
