Message From The Director
As the Executive Director of the Granville Recreation District, I am honored to serve as a steward of our community’s recreation department. Our parks and recreation programs and facilities are more than amenities; they are vital threads in the fabric of our community, providing spaces for connection, inspiration, and wellness. 

Looking ahead, our focus is on fostering community partnerships, improving our communication, new programming opportunities, and providing the community with the highest level of organizational transparency. We are launching new programs to engage all age groups, from youth adventure camps to wellness workshops. Additionally, our team is committed to maintaining safe, clean, and vibrant spaces that reflect the needs and aspirations of the community we serve. 

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the residents, volunteers, and local organizations who support our mission. Thank you for making the Granville Recreation District a source of pride in our community.

The Granville Recreation District proudly offers parks, facilities, programs, and services to meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic population. The Granville Recreation District serves a community of over 14,000 in partnership with the Village of Granville, Granville Township, and the Granville Exempted School District.

Executive Director

Andy was appointed as the Executive Director of the Granville Recreation District (GRD) in May of 2010. Prior to this role, Andy worked as the Director of Barberton Parks and Recreation Department in Barberton, Ohio.  Through collaboration with the Akron Area YMCA and Summa Health, Andy helped to spearhead the design and construction of a 60,000 square-foot Community Center and Senior Center. Since joining the GRD, Andy and the leadership team have constructed an award winning public recreation department, providing comprehensive public recreation services for Granville and the surrounding communities.  

Andy has served as President of the Granville Rotary Club, President of the Granville Arts’ Boosters, a guest lecturer for Denison University’s HESS Major, and has also been a presenter at the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association annual conference. Additionally, he has provided consulting services for public recreation organizations around Ohio. A graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Administration, Andy and his wife Dallas reside in Granville with their children, Andrew and Lindsay.

Program Director

Juli Pintz joined us in April 2017 as a Youth Sports & Program Coordinator and serving in that capacity until June 2022 when she stepped into Lesa Miller’s position upon her retirement as Program Director. Juli has previously worked for the GRD as a Summer intern May - July . She has a Recreation degrees from The Ohio State University and Ohio University. In her free time she is a Pau Hana Swim Team Instructor.

Youth Sports Director

AJ Gaul started in 2017. AJ comes to us from BrightView Enterprise Solutions, where for four years, he distinguished himself as an Area Manager in charge of running daily aspects of landscape and snow removal services for large scale accounts. AJ is also a member of the Professional Golf Association of America.

Youth Sports & Program Coordinator

Cory Becher is a Granville native, graduating from GHS in 2009 who joined the GRD team in June 2022. He has been involved with the Granville Rec as an athlete and referee throughout his childhood and high school years. Since then, he has received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo, a Master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and is currently finishing a PhD at The Ohio State University. In 2019, Cory accepted a position to be an assistant varsity football coach for Granville and has been ever since. However, his most prized accomplishment is being the 2021 GRD 4th of July “World Famous” Egg Toss Champion with his cousin Jimmy Hoben.

Club Soccer Coordinator

Erin McCallum has been a soccer player all of her life, starting local rec leagues before transitioning to club soccer. From there she played high school soccer, made it into the state level of the Olympic Development Program (ODP), and then was awarded a scholarship to play college soccer. After her college career she was able to play professional in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for the Columbus Eagles. Erin has years of experience coaching and refereeing soccer at the GRD and club soccer organizations. All of these experiences have granted her access to all levels of competitive soccer and we were excited for her to join our staff in 2022 in a part-time position allowing her to share those experiences, her expertise, and her passion for soccer administration with us.

Marketing & Drive Academy Director

Lara Benschoter, a 1991 Granville High School Graduate, was hired in 2011 to help the Granville Recreation District with their marketing needs. With a BFA in Graphic Design from Bowling Green State University, Lara incorporates her talents into the communication needs of the GRD. In September 2021 Lara was hired as a full-time employee to launch the Driver’s Education program and becoming a Driver Training Instructor with the State of Ohio. The first set of students began learning to drive in January 2021. Lara resides in the Granville School District and is very active in the community serving as President of The Federated Clubs of Granville since 2008 and serving on the Granville Turkey Trot Committee since 2012 .

Maintenance Director

Bobby Vahalik began in 2015. He served as a maintenance supervisor at Riverside Hospital and has successfully operated his own business for the past seven years. Bobby has served as volunteer coach for baseball, football and basketball since relocating to the community in 2006. Bobby brings 15 plus years of facility maintenance experience and a high level of community knowledge. Bobby and his wife, Shauna, and their 2 children reside and live in the Granville Exempted Village School District.

Administrative Assistant

Janet Gordon, a Granville native, began serving as a volunteer for the Granville Recreation Commission in 2000 after retiring from teaching 1st grade. She served as Treasurer for the Commission for several years, and was hired as Administrative Assistant upon the formation of the Granville Recreation District. Janet lives in Granville with her husband John and have 2 children.

GRD Board of Trustees

The Granville Recreation District Board of Trustees is a five member board. Each member serves a 3-year term. The board includes 3 appointed members and 2 at-large members. Agencies that appoint members include Granville Village, Granville Exempted School District and Granville Township.

 
 

Greg Lott

CHAIRPERSON
Village Of Granville Trustee: Appointed, February 2021

Greg has been actively involved with the GRD as a youth sport coach in baseball, basketball and flag football. Greg is the Director of Athletics at Otterbein University and previously held dual appointments as an Assistant Professor of Health, Exercise, and Sport Studies and Assistant Director of Athletics at Denison University. As a scholar-practitioner, he focuses on student-athlete and coach development. His scholarly pursuits are framed by extensive experience as a collegiate head and assistant track and field coach and by his time as a professional athlete. Greg earned a Ph.D. in Sport Management from the Ohio State University. He and his wife Melanie have two sons, Trevor and Cameron, who love all that the GRD has to offer.

Ed is a Supply Chain Specialist working for an aerospace company.  Ed has been a resident of Granville for over 20 years and was an active GRD coach for soccer and baseball. He and his wife, Tricia, have two sons who grew up participating in GRD youth sports programs and activities.

 

Brian Costa

VICE CHAIRMAN
Granville Exempted School District Trustee: Appointed, March 2018

Brian has been an active GRD volunteer, coaching soccer, t-ball/baseball, basketball, football, and lacrosse for nearly a decade. He works in law enforcement as both a Special Agent for the State of Ohio and as a Sergeant for the Granville Police Dept. He and his wife Erin, have 6 children.

Stacy Schroeder

Granville Township Trustee: Appointed, January 2023

As lifelong Blue Ace, Stacy fell in love with playing sports through the Granville Recreation Commission and continued throughout high school and college. Stacy has a degree in Sport Management from Bowling Green State University and went on to work in marketing in professional soccer. More recently she spent several years on the Board of the Granville Parent Co-op Preschool including a year as President. Stacy, now, enjoys coaching GRD basketball and spending time with her kids, Noah and Charlotte, and her husband, Chad.
